A Warehouse Management System is a software platform that controls, manages, and optimizes warehouse operations—including inventory movement, storage, picking, packing, receiving, shipping, and labor workflows. WMS provides real‑time visibility into stock locations, inventory accuracy, and operational performance across a warehouse or distribution centre.
A WMS is more operationally detailed than an IMS (Inventory Management System) because it governs how inventory moves inside the warehouse—down to bins, bays, pick paths, and activity sequencing.
